Through our struggles we learn to be strong ~Butterfly Story

God's Butterfly.

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through a little hole. Then suddenly, the butterfly seemed to stop making progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly emerged easily, but its body was swollen and its wings small-shriveled. It was never able to fly.

What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and its struggle was a process. A holy process that required the butterfly to get struggle through the tiny opening was God's way of forcing fluid from the body into its wings. The story represents that as a counselor-I am just a servant, God's representative - never to interfere with the real process of God's will and order. I think at times people feel we will "give the quick fix", but counseling is about change, a struggle to learn to fly and to relearn to fly again. In the midst of sometimes difficult times, we just learn how we really find ways to fly again with new wings.

Counselors are not the wind or the cocoon.

At Healing Wings Counseling/Therapy Heart Talk, we are passionate about helping people to find healing from their struggles and pain. Our services combine Christian and clinical counseling therapies, with body, mind, and spirit --taking all into consideration. We ensure a positive and encouraging atmosphere, while still having honest conversations about life. We prioritize finding the best in our clients to use as a tool to help them move through their pain for hope for the future. If you are looking for a counseling service that is both uplifting and understanding but moves towards healing, Healing Wings is here to help.

DeeDee has had a calling and compassion for the hardships she has been through with autoimmune and grief. She hopes she can encourage others that knowing pain does not last forever but Hope can heal what has left you broken.

Our Story

Healing Wings Counseling was formed in 2003 as a counseling ministry and non-profit in Ohio. We started out counseling in churches and providing education to only those who attended church there in our early years. Healing Wings did expand counseling services by giving more education to other counselors as well as supervision including education for first responders. DeeDee Fetters, at the time was also working at Central Ohio Technical Community College as well as The Ohio State University in Disabilities and Counseling. Healing Wings thrived as a private practice in Delaware County, Ohio for many years. In 2020, our family moved to North Carolina to be closer to family in the south. Healing Wings Counseling transferred to NC as well as its mission to continue to provide Christian counseling. Our mission has always been to help all different types of people, churches, as well as schools find hope and healing in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Remembering Kristina Hamm 1971-2023

This past year we appreciate all your prayers and support for the loss of my Sister- Kristy Hamm - who passed away suddenly with one of her dogs- Nakoda this October. We know she is with Our Lord and Savior in Heaven. Her art of Butterfies, Crosses, and God's Creation is at our office. She continues to bless many people with her beautiful connection with God that Kristy gifted in art to and won many awards for throughout her life. .

Faith Statement

There is one God, self-existent and eternal, infinitely perfect, the Creator, HEALER, Protector, Provider, and Ruler of all things. Gen. 1, 2 Rev. 1:8 and much more of the Bible.

The Bible is the true inspired written Word of God, Living and infallible and absolute truth of our Lord.

The Godhead is a Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each Person is fully God, their glory equal and their majesty coeternal (Genesis 1:1–2; Matthew 3:15–17; John 1:1–3).

Our Lord Jesus Christ, the uncreated Creator and only begotten Son of God, took on human flesh to be fully man without ever ceasing to be fully God (Luke 24:39; John 1:1–3, 1:14, 1:18, 3:16, 8:58; Colossians 1:16; Acts 2:22; 1 Corinthians 15:47; Philippians 2:5–8; Hebrews 1:1–3).

Jesus was born of a virgin Mary, died on the cross, making full atonement for man’s sin in this world for eternal life. (Matthew 1:16–23; Luke 1:30–31; John 19:30; 1 Thessalonians 1:10; Hebrews 9:11–12, 10:12–14; 1 Peter 1:17–19; 1 John 2:2).

The Holy Spirit lives and works in each believe of Christianity the fruit of the Spirit (John 14:16–17; Acts 1:8, 4:31; Romans 8:11; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:18–20; Galatians 5:22–23; Ephesians 2:19–22).
